Our Executive Board

Rob Williams, President
Rob has been working in language education since 1983 as a teacher, teacher trainer, materials writer and assessor. Since 1998 he has also been involved in cross cultural traning. He is currently a principal lecturer at the University of Westminster teaching on the MA TESOL and MA International Liaison and Communication. As well as this he is the director of the UoW/Ministry of Defence Languages Examinations Board, running mediation examinations at 4 levels in up to 47 different languages. He is a passionate believer in the need for improved communication as a means to greater social understanding and feels that maintaining high quality language instruction combined with intercultural competence goes a long way to achieving this.
Within the ICC Rob's main focus is on structural management and quality assurance.

Martin Beck, director of Mondiale Testing, Switzerland, has been involved in language education for more than 20 years. Ten years ago he set up MONDIALE-Testing, a full-service language testing organization with many international customers. His main focus on the board will be to raise awareness of the ICC through the quality of its services and activities.

As ICC Treasurer, Nick's main focus on board will be the ICC financial structure.

Sue Wood works for Flying Teachers in Zürich. She currently spends most of her time teaching and developing materials for English for Medical Purposes. EUROLTA and the Quality Assurance Scheme are her main areas of interest for the ICC.
Michael CarrierMichael Carrier is Head of English Language Innovation for The British Council, based in London.
He has been involved in ELT for over 30 years as a teacher, trainer, author, school director and network director. He has worked in Germany, Italy, Poland, UK and the USA, and lectured in many other countries worldwide.
He was formerly Executive Director of Eurocentres in Washington D.C. and until 2008 CEO of the International House World network of schools.
He has written a number of ELT coursebooks and skills books, including the Front Page series, Business Circles, Intermediate Writing Skills and Spotlight Readers.
His special field of interest is in elearning and the application of technology to Language Teaching, and he is the Editor of the Technology section of Modern English Teacher.
He was recently Associate Professor at New School University, New York for the MA in TESOL.
He is currently serving on the Board of AccreditationUK, as Special Advisor on the Board of the EAQUALS organization, and is a member of the Board of OUP's English Language Teaching Journal and CUP's Language Teaching journal.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Member of the Society of Authors..

Tim PhillipsTim Phillips has always been involved in the business side of communication and language training. Having spent many years as an in-company trainer, he moved into e-learning and consultancy in multinational companies. He set up the language and intercultural consultancy and training institute SKYLIGHT in Cologne in 2004. His driving vision has always been to raise the profile of the language teaching profession, from trainer to institution. He believes the ICC is a key organization in achieving this and will develop together with the board the market presence of the ICC.
