Communication in Mobile and Virtual Work

coordinated by TUAS, Turku University of Applied Sciences

Students must be prepared for the challenges of an increasingly international work environment. This is why TUAS, Manchester Metropolitan University, Universitat Politècnica de València, the International Language Association (ICC) and Gdansk University of Technology are cooperating in a project on the communication literacy needed by employees and managers to be successful in the virtual and mobile work environment at the European level.

CoMoViWo seeks to define the skills needed in virtual and mobile work in a multicultural environment; to reflect the shared communication literacy required from managers and employees; to integrate a comprehensive view of communication, cultures, new technology and virtual and mobile work life; and to develop joint training modules for higher education students and business representatives. English and Spanish will be the languages used as lingua franca in the modules.

Devising new kinds of communication skills: The European project CoMoViWo

This article presents CoMoViWo, an ongoing European project that aims at modernizing education at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), vocational institutions and enterprises in order to meet the needs of virtual and mobile work. The innovative character of this project is embedded in the combination of mobile and virtual communication, new technologies, multiculturalism and collaboration of and with enterprises. The difference phases of the project will undertake a review on communication literacy, the design of the virtual training modules, their piloting and their revision. The project results and outcomes will benefit the various actors dealing with virtual and mobile communication in multicultural environments and will also contribute to improve the employability needs of students and the success of enterprises in the global market.

FACTS

Foreign Language Assessment of Competences Test System

The main goal of this project is to support the competences of the immigrants and their descendants so they may live and work in an increasingly complex society, strengthen their relationship to the job market, and gain access to continuing education programs by documenting their language competences regarding their native language and their parents' language.

One purpose of the project is to assist in increasing the immigrants' relationship to the job market by developing tools to document language competences in the immigrant language.

Interactive tests in English, French, Italian, Spanish and German will be complemented by tests in e Arabic, Turkish and Chinese. Immigrants and emigrants will thus be more easily and accurately document their competences in their native/parents' language. Project coordinator is Studieskolen, Denmark.
