The project contributes to the transparency of qualifications by developing and further refining new methodologies of assessment, certification and validation of the language competencies required in work situations. It illustrate how a common model can be applied to different cultural and business contexts.
The project targets all sections of the (potential) workforce in Romania and Slovakia that require certification of foreign language competence in a vocational context.
A series of training modules were produced in English, German, Romanian and Slovak The materials can be used within their organisations and beyond to install a system of evaluation and certification of foreign language competence at the workplace which is explicit, transparent, coherent, comprehensible and calibrated.
The training materials consist of an introduction to the concept of competence-based evaluation, a practical manual for assessors and for candidates, guidelines on the certification of assessors, and a complete list of descriptors for the six levels of competence defined in the five skills together with assessment criteria. The materials have been produced in loose-leaf format, thus ensuring that future modifications and additions can be easily incorporated into the body of the text. In addition, there are sample materials submitted by candidates in the form of audio and video recordings as well as written materials.
