The aim of the project was to develop an examination in Swedish as a foreign language at two levels: Level A2 and B1 according to the Council of Europe scale.
Objectives of the projects were
- to increase the interest in learning Swedish by developing examinations and clear objectives for language learning.
- to strengthen and develop the co-operation between adult education institutions in Sweden, Germany and Poland with the aim of pooling resources and experience in the field of language testing and certification and life long learning.
- to facilitate mobility and exchanges of experience concerning learning and teaching of languages between the informal and formal sector of adult education by elaborating a system of certification of language competence, in this case Swedish.
Results of the project were: A comprehensive overview in the specifications, with a short introduction in English. The specifications contain the following: Preface, Introduction (English and Swedish), The Role of Swedish in the World, Scenarios, Spoken Swedish and Patterns of Communication, Cultural Competence, Strategies, Functions / Speech Intentions, Topics, Notions, Grammar, Vocabulary list, List of authors and contributors.
The two mock examinations, one for level A2 and one for level B1, provide a comprehensive introduction and rationale to the test formats as well as a complete set of sub tests testing all skills. There is also a section explaining the marking criteria.
The material also contains a training pack consisting of video recordings of candidates attempting examination tasks (at A2 and B1) has been produced together with a written guide which gives the marking attributed to each candidate by a team of experienced examiners.
